ROAMING PHOTOGRAPHER

Formerly an social worker, educating young children, Fakele left behind his former career with little ones to dedicate himself 100% to his passion, photography. But maybe not the photography you know...

For 2 years, Fakele has been what is called a travelling/roaming photographer and he travels the streets of our city to take people's portraits using a 100% analog photography method, without any electricity or gadgets, only light and chemistry.

The device with which he is most often seen is "The Afghan Box" (see photo below) , this magnificent wooden box that was once used in rural villages in Afghanistan, Africa and other far-away lands.

It was often the only way to be photographed, whether for a family photo or for a passport, but with the commercialisation and democratisation of the camera, it is a practice that has gradually been lost.

It was a craftsman from Brittany who made Fakele's Afghan box after he saw another photographer using one , and it has become his trademark ever since.

But this is not the only device he uses, he also uses a dark-chamber camera and the fascinating pinhole camera to create magnificent portraits and scenes of city life .

THE 2 BOOKS

The first book is called "Kilometer Zero" because Fakele took the portraits from his balcony during lockdown (he had just moved to Montreuil!)

And the second "PomPom" is his way of counting to be sure to wait the right number of seconds during the shoot (1 pompom, 2 pompoms, 3...)

NEW PROJECT - IN SEARCH OF THE PERFECT PLACE

For his 3rd volume, Fakele will publish photos taken only with a pinhole camera.

A pinhole camera comes in the form of a box with one side pierced with a tiny hole that lets in light.

During the shooting, which can take hours, the camera takes in everything that is still but erases everything that has moved, thus producing very curious and mysterious scenes.
